Luas Fun Summer Activity Guide - Science
This year, Dublin has been declared the City of Science
2012. There are lots of fun and educational activities happening throughout the city
for everyone this summer. Take the kids on Luas for the day and be part of the
action. Here are some ideas to get you going...

THE ARK: AWAKENING CURIOSITY
What: Awakening Curiosity is an
interactive art exhibition for children and families, with a playful twist of science. It encourages children to investigate and
respond to the world around them, and features an indoor Rooftop Art Garden,
where children can work with an artist to bring their ideas to life after
visiting the exhibition.
When: Open every Tue-Sun 10:00-17:00 (Exhibition runs until 6th August)
Cost: €4 per child (adults free)

THE SCIENCE GALLERY: HACK THE CITY
What: How innovation can help to
transform the city from the ground up. Geared towards older children with an interest
in technology, architecture and gardening.
When: Tue-Fri 12:00-20:00, Sat 12:00-18:00
Café opens: Tue-Fri 08:00-20:00, Sat 12:00-18:00

CHESTER BEATTY LIBRARY: SILK WORM SUMMER CLUB

What: For 6-11 year old young scientists. CALMAST (Centre for the Advancement and Learning of Maths) are running a week-long, interactive science club. Children will get the chance to explore a range of science activities with interactive, hands-on experiments and activities.
When: Mon 9/7/12 – Fri 13/7/12, 11:30-12:45

CHESTER BEATTY LIBRARY: HANDLING OBJECTS
What: Learn with the CALMAST (Centre
for the Advancement and Learning of Maths) to explore and handle scientific
instruments such as astrolabes and astronomy tools.
When: Mon 16/7/12 – Fri 20/7/12, 13:00-16:00

TOP OF SOUTH KING STREET: MATHS IN THE CITY
What: Interactive puzzles, magic
tricks, giant mazes designed to show people the fun side of maths.

COUNTY LIBRARY TALLAGHT : I AM A BABY EINSTEIN
What: Interactive learning for
pre-school children using library resources to explore opposites, shapes,
sound, sight, touch and smell.
When: Tue 3rd July, 11:00

IMAGINOSITY
What: Interactive children’s
museum with a variety of workshops and classes in arts and crafts, computers,
music and theatre.
