Luas Fun Summer Activity Guide - Nature

Nature is this week’s theme in the Luas fun summer activity guide. The best thing about nature is that it is usually free! Dublin has lots of great parks within easy distance of Luas stops, so bring the kids out and get down with nature!

CANAL WALKS – GREEN LINE
What: Take a stroll down by the Grand Canal and
enjoy the waterways in Dublin. Why not bring a picnic and don’t forget some
bread for the ducks!

WAR MEMORIAL GARDENS, CON COLBERT ROAD
What: Take a picnic and head to the War
Memorial Gardens in Islandbridge. They
are the most famous memorial gardens in Europe and are dedicated to the memory
of the 49,400 Irish soldiers that died in the 1914-1918 war. There are beautiful rose gardens, fountains
and you can watch the rowers training on the river.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM, MERRION STREET
What: From animals that live (or used to live)
in Ireland, to mammals of the world, big and small, children will be amazed as soon as they walk
in the entrance of this unique Museum. And we're pretty sure that parents will
enjoy it too! You can wander around
museum at your own pace, or sign up for tours and events that are tailored
specifically for families.

IVEAGH GARDENS, HARCOURT STREET
What: The
Iveagh Gardens are among the finest yet least known of Dublin's parks and
gardens. The recently restored cascade and exotic tree ferns all help to
create a sense of wonder in the 'Secret Garden'. Let the kids explore the
beautiful gardens.

DUBLIN ZOO, PHOENIX PARK
What: One of
the world’s oldest, yet modern zoos, the 28 hectare park in the heart of Dublin
is home to some 600 animals in safe environment where education and
conservation combine for an exciting and unforgettable experience.

ST. STEPHEN’S GREEN
What: Over 3.5 km of
pathways are accessible for all users. The waterfall and Pulham rock work on
the western side of the green are worth visiting. There is an ornamental lake which provides a
home for waterfowl and a garden for the visually impaired and also a children's
playground. Lunchtime concerts are performed during the summer months.
