Luas and its Operator and Maintainer Transdev, are proud to support the “Saints & Scholars” programme alongside St Patrick’s AFC. This partnership developed a football numeracy programme which took place in local schools across the Luas Red Line. The programme began in September 2024 and has now finished for the school summer break.
“Saints & Scholars” aim is to utilise the power of football and the influence of St. Patrick’s AFC to facilitate engagement between young people and Luas staff.
The school programme was delivered to the students by St. Patrick’s AFC through classroom sessions, which are delivered through a specially made Mathematics workbook, where students learn how to solve math problems using football terminology. The programme was delivered to 2nd to 6th class students, reaching 1,300 students over the course of the year.

The participating schools are close to both Richmond Park – the home of St. Patrick’s AFC, and the Luas Red Line. We are proud support the delivery of this successful programme and building a positive relationship with young people in the area.
Inchicore School Cup Tournament
On Wednesday 28 May and Thursday 29 May, St. Patrick’s AFC, supported by Luas, hosted their annual Inchicore School Cup which included the participating schools from the “Saints & Scholars” programme.
Over the two-day tournament, students, teachers, and parents filled the stadium, cheering on the students as they battled it out on the pitch for the winning title. It was all smiles and laughter throughout the day; the atmosphere was electric.
The students were presented with medals for their participation, with prizes presented to each player of the match.
