Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in partnership with the National Transport Authority (NTA), is inviting members of the public to take part in a non-statutory public consultation for Luas Cork, a transformative new light rail project for the city.
Luas Cork public consultation is open until Monday 9 June 2025.
Cork has been selected by the European Commission to become one of Europe’s first climate-neutral cities. The proposed Luas Cork line, stretching 18km from Ballincollig to Mahon Point, supports this ambition by promoting sustainable, high-capacity public transport and reducing reliance on private cars.
The proposed line will feature up to 25 stops, linking key destinations including: Ballincollig and MTU, Cork University Hospital and UCC, Cork city centre and Kent Station, Páirc Uí Chaoimh and Mahon Point. The system is designed to carry at least 2,300 passengers per hour in each direction at peak times, with trams running every six minutes.
How to Get Involved?
TII and the NTA are inviting the public to participate in the consultation where details of the proposals are published and will host the following stakeholder meetings:
- Monday, 28 April – Kingsley Hotel, Cork 12-8pm
- Tuesday 29 April – Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork 12-8pm
- Tuesday 6 May – The Metropole Hotel, Cork 12-8pm
- Friday 9 May – The Carraig Centre, Ballincollig, Cork 12-8pm
At these events you can inspect drawings and meet from the Luas Cork project team who will be available to answer questions. This local knowledge will inform the emerging design and help improve the scheme.
A virtual exhibition is available, along with details on upcoming events. Submissions can also be made online, by email at [email protected], by phone on 1800 777 321, or by post.
