Paying your way is easy

Whether you're heading to work, college or a night out, getting a valid ticket for Luas takes just a few seconds. Make sure you're covered before you board.
Fortunately, paying your way when travelling on Luas is easy. There are several methods available for paying for travel on Luas:
TFI Leap Card
The simplest way to travel. Your TFI Leap Card works on Luas if it has enough credit for your journey, or, if you have a Taxsaver ticket. Your ticket must be valid for the date you are travelling and it applies to Adult, Student and Taxsaver Leap Cards.
- Tap On at a Luas Validator on the Luas Platform before you board.
- Tap Off at a Luas Validator on the Luas Platform when you get off.
- Using the 90 Minute Fare after another mode of transport? You still need to Tap On at a Luas Validator before boarding Luas.
If you do not do this and Luas Revenue Protection staff check your TFI Leap Card, you will not have a valid ticket for travel and you will be issued a Standard Fare Notice (SFN) for €45.
Top up using the Leap Top-Up App (Apple App Store or Google Play) or at any Luas ticket machine.
Luas Ticket
You can buy a Luas Ticket at every Luas Ticket Machines, located at all Luas Stops on every Luas Platform. You can pay with:
- Cash (€50 notes are not accepted for transactions under €30)
- Credit or debit card, including contactless, with no minimum spend required.
Your paper ticket must be valid for all Luas zones you are travelling in, and be the correct type for you (Adult, Student, or Child).

Free Travel Public Services Card (PSC)
If you have a Free Travel Public Services Card, you do not need to purchase a ticket for your Luas trip; however, you must touch your card against a Luas Validator located on a Luas Platform before and after your trip.
Ticket checks happen every day
Luas Customer Agents and Security Officers check tickets all day, every day, on trams and on platforms after you get off. Always have your TFI Leap Card, Luas Ticket or Free Travel Public Services Card ready to show.
Your ticket isn't valid if…
- You haven't paid the correct fare
- You didn't Tap On at a Luas validator before boarding
- Your ticket has expired, or you're travelling beyond the zones it covers
- You don't have the required Public Services Card with Free Travel
- You're using someone else's Personalised TFI Leap Card
- You don't have a valid Student TFI Leap Card
- You're an adult travelling on a child's ticket
- You're not carrying the supporting documentation your ticket requires
Passengers travelling without a valid ticket will be issued a Standard Fare Notice. Paying the SFN within 14 days entitles the holder to a reduced rate of €45.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid ticket BEFORE boarding a tram, and that you produce it when asked to do by an authorised member of Luas Staff.
