Your safety, and the safety of those travelling with you, is our priority. If you become separated from a child, or if you or someone travelling with you needs extra support while using Luas, here is what to do and how we can help.
If You've Lost a Child
- Stay calm and alert a member of Luas staff immediately.
- Press the red emergency button (SOS) at the Luas stop, each stop has one and it is located beside the ticket machine. This button allows you to talk directly to the Control Center who will speak to the driver of the tram and start the process of reunification. The Control Center also keep a camera on the person who is at the SOS button speaking to them and ensuring that they are fully informed.
- There is also an emergency button on board the tram which allows you to talk directly to the driver.
- There is an emergency handle on board the tram which when pulled, a passenger can bring the tram to a stop.
- Provide a clear description of the child or the person, including their name, age, clothing, and the last place you saw them.
- Do not search the tracks or tram area yourself. Luas staff are trained to coordinate a safe and effective search, and your safety matters too.
Messages will be broadcast via PAs and PIDs across the network providing a description of the missing LCVI to both staff and passengers. Details of who and how to contact in the event of locating the LCVI are also provided.
If You Are a Lost Child
- Look for a member of Luas staff — they will be wearing a Luas uniform — or go to the nearest help point and press the button to speak to someone who can help.
- Stay where you are once you've found a staff member or help point. They will help reunite you with the person you were travelling with.
Supporting Vulnerable Individuals
We want everyone to feel safe and supported while travelling on Luas. If you, or someone you are travelling with, needs assistance because of age, disability, health, or any other reason:
- Speak to any member of Luas staff, who will be glad to help.
- Use the help point at any stop or in the tram for direct contact
- Our staff are trained to provide appropriate support and, where needed, to contact additional services on your behalf.
Help Points
Help points are located at every Luas stop and provide a direct line to our control centre or drivers, 24 hours a day. Simply press the button to speak to someone who can assist you.
In the event of an LCVI being located on the network:
Luas staff will immediately notify the Control Centre of the situation. An Garda Síochána to be notified.
Where previously notified of an LCVI, Luas staff will accompany the individual to the nearest Garda station, or will await the arrival of the Garda where instructed to do so.
Where no previous notification has been received, Luas staff will accompany the individual to either their guardian (on the system, their home or other location where their guardian is present), or the closet Garda station.
Reasonable efforts will be made to have a Luas team member of the same gender as the LCVI to accompany them.
