When it comes to safety, we all have responsibility.  

Safety is a top priority for Luas.  

Every day, thousands of passengers travel safely across the Luas network. To help keep it that way, we would like to remind Luas passengers to always stand clear of tram doors when they are opening and closing.  

Tram doors do not work like lift doors. They are not designed to detect every object or movement in the doorway, so anything caught in a closing door, a backpack, an umbrella, a shopping bag … can create a real safety risk, both for the person involved and for the tram's ability to depart safely.  

There are small steps you can take to help keep yourself and others safe while travelling on Luas: 

1. Keep personal items away from closing doors. 
2. Never try to get on or off a tram while the doors are closing. An orange light flashes above each of the doors, and a warning tone sounds when the doors are about to close. The tram is unable to move if the doors are unable to close; however, you may injure yourself if the doors close on you. 
3. Always stand well back from the platform edge – particularly when trams are arriving at the stop. Ensure backpacks, bags, and other objects are also kept clear of the edge of the platform to ensure you do not come into contact with a passing tram.
4. if the doors are closing, don't rush. Let them close and wait for the next tram. It's a few minutes' wait, and it's the safest choice every time. 
5. Stay clear, stay safe.  

We all have a responsibility for safety. We ask everyone travelling on Luas to ensure we keep ourselves and our fellow passengers safe.
